- SHORT SHAKE:
[↩] - SLOE GIN is a British red liqueur made with GIN and SLOES (So it DOES have actual Gin in it). Sloes are the fruit (drupe) of Prunus Spinosa, a relative of the plum. Sloe gin has an alcohol content between 15 and 30 percent by volume (30 to 60 Proof). However, the European Union has established a minimum of 25% ABV (50 Proof) for sloe gin to be named as such. So, when ordering your Sloe Gin (one bottle should last practically forever) get something with a higher alcohol content than the usual over-sweet high fructose swill most bars carry. Who know? Maybe it’ll sell better if it’s actual higher quality real Sloe Gin and not some flavored sugar sauce.[↩]
- PRUNUS SPINOSA, called Blackthorn or Sloe, is a species of flowering plant in the rose family Rosaceae. It is native to Europe, Western Asia, and Northwest Africa. It is also locally naturalized in New Zealand, Tasmania and Eastern North America. The fruits have been used to make Sloe Gin in Britain, and the wood used for making both Walking Sticks and Staffs, and the Shillelagh by the Irish.[↩]
