How to Sell Yourself to a Party Host. Bartending 101

There are thousands of home parties being given daily in all major areas of the country.

This is becoming an increasingly popular and inexpensive way to entertain in a cozy, familiar atmosphere. The majority of these parties will need good, efficient bartenders to make them successful. The secret to getting hired for party jobs is in the confidence, politeness, and product knowledge you display to the host, whether it be in person or more commonly over the phone.

The following outline should be followed when applying for any party job:

  1. Where will the party be given?
  2. When will the party be? (date and hours)
  3. What time would you like me to arrive?
  4. What type of drinks do you wish served?
  5. How many guests do you expect?
  6. Do you have the liquor and mixes? If no,
  7. Do you need help in figuring what to buy and how much?
  8. Do you have the garnishes and ice?
  9. Is there anything you would like me to bring?
  10. Would you like me to prepare a special “Holiday Punch” for your party?

If the host asks you what you charge for your services, you should be firm, yet, polite in your response. Twelve dollars per hour is a good figure for the first four hours, anything over that is sixteen to twenty dollars per hour.
