I think it was Trader Vic who warned me about the type of women who target rich bartenders and bar owners so I’ll pass it along to you now, both to the men and to the women, because female bartenders can benefit from the same information about certain men who are the same way.
Now, I’m no Adonis – women don’t usually give me a first look, never mind a second. That all changed once I tended bar in my first really busy bar. All of a sudden there were groupies who hung out late, wanted to date, and while I might have reasoned that it was partly because of the booze, it wasn’t likely – I’d been to bars where women were drinking and they didn’t pay any attention to my presence there, plus I’d been properly warned. They were there to play me, and I knew it.
Like the guy in the video at the beginning of this post, when you’re aware of the game you can play it to your own advantage for fun without letting on that you know, just don’t fall for it.
Waitresses are also targetable. I can’t speak about how many ways there are to run a game on waitresses but in the NY Hilton’s Mirage cocktail lounge where I served about 18 waitresses the usual technique used by men was to wear fake Rolex watches, thick fake gold bracelets and costume jewelry rings. Usually their cards identified them as oil rich Texans or some other fiction.
Fortunately one of my waitresses was a former Playboy mansion bunny who had an uncanny ability to recognize fake jewelry and knock-off watches. She saved more than one waitress from falling for scams.
One experienced multi generational bar owner I know who has 5 bars went through a sting of beauties who decided to take charge and way too confidently move in on him and the bar and act as if they owned the place. It was painful seeing where they were headed, while the bar owner gave them just enough rope to hang themselves before giving them the boot.
